Have your finest Whiskey pairing with Omakase at Southpaw Bar & Sushi

Hello guys! How have you been? I have got a very exciting things I wanna share with you. I literally just came back from heaven after dining at Southpaw Bar & Sushi.

I know you must be thinking that I'm exaggerating, but hold on your comment and read through before you judge me alright. After all different human being have their own likes and preferences :)

Ok why I said that dining at Southpaw Bar & Sushi makes me feels like I'm in heaven?

Well few weeks back I was selected to go for food-tasting thanks to Jess yet again! Can't thank her enough for all this goodies 💓

Southpaw Bar & Sushi is a new Fushion bar which served Japanese food. But they are so modern that their decoration are nothing Japanese like except for the cosy 12 sitting tables by the bar. They are located along Cavan road at Cavan Suites.

What's even more unique is that, boss Roy will be around to mingle most of the time and also he usually teaches his patron to pair their delicious and fresh sushi with Irish / Scott Whiskey or Bourbon instead of the usual Sake or Japanese Whiskey. But that's nothing to worry for Sake / Japanese Whiskey lover as they have whole lot of collection in their restaurant too.

Boss Roy mentioned that he wants customer to feel special and cosy, hence he only have 12 sitting available. The food are all order to made. Which means it's strictly by reservation only.
Why? Because when the number of pax is confirmed, they will order their fresh ingredient which will than be delivered daily according to the maximum of 12 pax that night.

I was at first somewhere surprised by the small and narrowed area inside the restaurant but after sitting and walking around I felt really comfortable and the whole experience was very personalized.

What I like especially much is the unlimited collection of Whiskey from all over.

I have never been to Japan nor tried Omakase before and I just like the idea of being in suspends, spoiled and being served the freshest food by the chef.

I was there with 3 other gorgeous lady, Irene, Gisele and Janet for the food tasting.

Our first highlight was the appetizer. It was a Scottish Oyster and Salmon cartilage soft bone. Well before I even went there, I was discussing with Irene that she can have my serving of Oyster and I will take her salmon instead.

But guess what? I had my virgin experience of having Oyster under the encouragement of boss Roy as he convinced me that the Oyster ain't anything like those served outside. True enough! I never regret tasting it and I'm proud to mark this off my list of don't dare! The Scottish Oyster taste very mild with a nutty taste which lingers. What was even most interesting was after eating the Oyster, the boss will pour some Whiskey into the Oyster shell which mix with the remaining juice and let you taste. It was the best way to eat my first Oyster and also pairing Whiskey with Oyster, the experience was amazing. Serving along the Oyster, was the Salmon Cartilage soft bone. It's also my first time trying this part of Salmon. We was told that this is actually the best part of a Salmon.
I like how chewy the texture was and how it was prepared with Yuzu because of the tanginess of the Yuzu, it doesn't taste fishy.

Like as if the first dish wasn't good enough that we was served our 2nd dish and it was my favorite! Salmon Sashimi. I have eaten tons of Salmon Sashimi so this must be nothing new to me. But I was wrong! The Salmon are top with some black caviar, drizzle with truffle oil and sprinkles with bonito flakes. My oh my! I can't describe how special this dish was. I have never thought that truffle goes well with Sashimi. Yummy! Also it was super fresh that you don't smell any fishy smell.

The chef and boss continue to impressed us by letting us know that all the condiments and most ingredients are hand grown and handmade.

For example this wasabi here, are grown locally and they will pluck and grind on their own.

View how the chef prepare it here ↓
Impressive right?

I was served with this Irish Whiskey to go along with my fresh Sashimi. Just 1-2 drop of water and sip it in.
I love how it makes my sushi taste even tastier. The Whiskey wasn't too strong nor too light.
Our 3rd dish is the Sashimi Mori Wase. This set will cost you $48 itself.

Chef preparing
Everything here are edible and let the boss show you how below.
In this set there is: Shima Aji fish, Tai fish, Simmered Octopus, Tuna Belly,  and fresh sweet shrimp!

I must say I learned a new way to eat my Sashimi now so I can eat like a pro infuture.!

The next few Sushi was served individually.
Tuna. See that white stuff? It's the Japanese grated mountain yam

Ika lemon with Rock Salt

Horse Mackerel aka Aji

Hard Shell Agakai ( Japanese Hum)
This is one of the sushi which cracks a little dirty joke.
The boss mentioned that someone actually describe that this looks kinda like a women's "V****" oops.
P.s: It was mentioned by a female customer 😅

Oh btw I was also served Redbeast Single pot Still 12 years Irish Whiskey. This really taste good especially with toasted Sushi.

Last but not least, the best deal of the day was the Foie Gras!
This literally makes me asking for more. It was Irene and my first time trying it and mamami!
We felt like we went to heaven for a round.

Just look at how the chef prepares it.
Before

I really craves for more after this and I kept selfie with it hahahaha.

After all our Sushi, we was all  served rich clam miso soup which was already brewed right before we eat. Hence the taste of the clam was really into the soup.

Well as for my I was served Bourbon as my dessert Whiskey to end my course.

Real dessert for dessert lover and ours for the day was Japanese Black sesame Ice cream.

There's a few Omakase choice available which ranging from:

Omakase Ume - $68++
Omakase Take - $98++
Omakase Matsu - $138++

And chef creation.

Delicious birdnest with Royal Nest

Hi everyone I'm back again! Today I'm introducing some special delicacy to all of you!

I'm sure all of you know what is Birdnest. Well Birdnest is consider Chinese particularly prized in Chinese culture due to their rarity, and supposedly high nutritional value and exquisite flavor. Birdnest are created by edible-nest swiflets using solidified salvia, which are harvested for human consumption. There are many types and grading of bird's nest depends on the type of bird as well as the diet of the bird. It differs in color from white to dark brown and the Chinese believe that it promotes good health, especially for the skin.

Nowadays there are many places which exclaimed that they sells the best / authentic bird nest but we will never know as we don't have much knowledge in that. Also often when we are dining at restaurants that are selling birdnest soup, most of the time the birdnest which they serve are faintly taste-able. Last week I was invited to Royal Bird's Nest for tasting by Rabbit MS a digital marketing agency in Singapore.

Who is Royal Bird's Nest?

Royal Bird’s Nest sells only 100% genuine bird’s nest, without any harmful chemicals, artificial coloring, or preservatives. They are processed and cleaned without any bleaching agent. They are able to guarantee their product quality because the whole process from harvesting bird’s nest, cleaning, quality control, until packaging for retail outlets, are done by themselves with no third party involves. ( I second that because I visited the shop and try and tasted it!! )

They have developed a special technology in cleaning the bird’s nest. Their technology will first transform normal drinking water into highly oxygenated water, which is then used to wash bird’s nest.

Royal Bird’s Nest aims to make bird’s nest affordable by selling at wholesale prices, so that more people will be able to enjoy bird’s nest on a regular basis.

I chatted with the friendly boss Bobby and came to know that they have been around for about 5 years now and they are family owned business.

Royal Bird's Nest are nested within People's park complex for the convenience of tourist who are visiting there.

Let me take you for a tour ;)

The majestic deco of the interior makes the shop most eye catching one in the complex.

They have tables and chair inside for you to enjoy a bowl of Birdnest.
They served freshly brewed Birdnest which are selling at only $12/bowl.

I was served 4 different flavours for my review.

First 2 was Bird's Nest soup with rock sugar and Bird's Nest soup with Ginseng. You can consume it cold or hot for this 2 selection and I chose the hot one.

My Bird's Nest was served in about 5 minutes time. Can you see the large amount of Bird Nest in each bowl?

I shall proved it to you with videos!! HAHA!! Are you drooling yet?

With Rock Sugar and I love it that it have Ginko!!
This is one of my favourite! Although I'm not a big fan of coconut, but I must say that this Coconut Jelly Bird's Nest is really a must try!

This is Bird's Nest with Osmanthus and Aloe vera. I like the Osmanthus fragrance that makes it exceptionally nice

I now truly believed that Royal Bird's Nest has the BEST BIRDNEST IN Singapore!!!!

Fisher's Tavern Seafood Review

Fancy a nice seafood meal with your family? Well I'm happy to introduce to you Fishers Tavern Seafood! Last week I have the privileged to be invited by Jess from whatjess1023.blogspot.com to have a meal there. First let me tell you more about Fishers Tavern.

Fishers Tavern was first started in Pasir Ris Fishing Pond for 9 years and later moved to Yishun North Spring. They was there for 3 years and the recent move sadden alot of their regulars from the area especially the owner grew up in the North as well.

But that's a great news for me and many east / central sider as they have recently shifted to new place will be in between two MRT Lines with two nearby MRT stations. Blue and Green Line. I shall reveal the location later. Also what's even greater news is that they are Certified Halal! This is really a great news for all my Muslim friends. You know it's really difficult to get a nice and good seafood place with Halal certified! Now that's a plus point!

Now let's see what's on their menu and what's we've been served :D

I know the menu is too small for you to see, but fret not as they have the full menu on their website.
I invited my bff Siying and even brought my boy along the food tasting. It's always nice to get some opinion from others and a kids right? :p

We was served a total of 6 dishes. Now let's see what's the yummy dish 👀

I'm starting with my favorite!

The Signature-style Beancurd.

The signature-style beancurd is not only my favorite by it's Siying and my boy's favorite too.
Carefully handmade with egg each pieces by themselves, the beancurd texture is so soft and silky that it melted the moment we took our first bite.
Comes in 3 different serving size and selling at $12 , $16 and $20

Next up Honey Chicken

My first taste of the Honey Chicken was surprised! Why? You know how bloggers always take so long to snap photo of food and by the time they are done, the food will all be cold and not as nice right? But not this Honey Chicken! Yes I was so shocked. The crispiness and tenderness of the chicken are still there even only after finally able to eat it about 40-45mins later. I'm glad that there's another choice of chicken other than the typical prawn paste chicken which normal zhi char place will sell.
Comes in 3 different serving size and selling at $12 , $16 and $20

Another star dish from their menu! The White bee hoon

I really don't have to say so much. Just look at this bowl of goodness!
The broth of the white been hoon is so thick and savoury that it makes me miss having it again. It's not like the normal dry white bee hoon. The broth has a thick texure with a tinges of creaminess. Note though the Seafood which you seen on this bowl various. The owner Song's mentioned that he will usually add in the freshest seafood that he has in his fridge. Also the bee hoon has a nice bite without it being too chewy or rubbery.
Comes in 3 different serving size and selling at $20 , $26 and $32

Next in line....

Yum Ring cooked with Chilli Chicken. This is also one of their star dish on the menu

The Yam Ring can be cook with 3 different mains. Seafood, Chilli Chicken and even Vegetarian.
Best eaten when it's hot. Selling for $22

Next up is.....

Deep Fried Sambal Fish

The Sambal fish is well deep fried and top with some nice sambal. But I can't give really good verdict for the fish as it was eaten after quite long hence it don't make justice to the great taste of it. Only opinion I have is that since this is suppose to be sambal fish, I would like it more spicy! HAHA. Because I really love spicy food and it various person to person.
This is selling at Market price so be sure to check before you order ;)

Last but not least...... It's what everyone looking forward to!

Salted Egg Crab!

Can u smell it? can you?? OMG! I must say the salty egg crab is really to die for!
I can really feel the sincereness of the boss by this dish! It's really worth to eat this salted egg crab as you can see how thick is the gravy. Even the flesh of the crab has a strong fragrance of the salted egg. Not only that, the crab is also very fresh! This shows that they don't cut down on the ingredient use and giving the best to customer. Irene really enjoyed the crab so much! Too bad I'm busy eating and didn't snap some photo of her indulging haha.
Snapping in action :D

Our six dishes!
I really swear the food is damn good! You need why I swear by it? Because I brought my mum and dad there for a meal few weeks after. My mum is known for her fussiness in food. She don't like food easily and we always have hard time finding a place to eat. But guess what? Not only my mum praises the food after first bite, she even ordered catering from them for some mini event we have at home. So now tell me what? If you are still not making your way over there, you are really missing out!

Boss Song and all the bloggers :)
Thanks to boss Song for great hosting and Jess for Inviting!
